Birthday Run
Garmin Connect - Activity Details for birthday run
[Attempting to connect the interwebs from Garmin to blogspot.]
On my birthday I ran my age in miles. This seems appropriate. 33 years, 33 miles. I hadn't run that distance before. Living on a mountain, less than a mile from the trailhead, affords me excellent access to trail running. The South Tiger trailhead is under a mile from my front door, and most of that mile is on neighborhood bridle trails. After running over middle Tiger, I crested the 3 west summits. Then I ran down into town, where the wife and kids met me with more fuel for the remaining miles. I planned poorly, however, and ran out of liquid and calories about an hour before the rendezvous. Serious bonk. First bonk ever. This was a great learning opportunity. I need more than two bottles for that much time on a trail. Mental note for the upcoming Orcas 50k. Fortunately there would be no more elevation in the run. I ran out and back on the East Lake Sammamish trail, and finished at Gold's Gym. Stretch, shower, and the family and I headed to a birthday dinner. And then the greatest ever homemade chocolate mocha birthday cake, which had been prepared in the morning by Chloe and Quinn while I was out on the trail. Big points for both of them. Basically they earned get out of jail free cards for that cake.
